Free self-check

0 of 4

Answer four quick questions about one mole or spot. Free, no sign-up needed.

  1. Sore. Is it sore, scaly, itchy, bleeding or tender, and hasn't healed within 6 weeks?

  2. Changing. Has it changed in size, shape, colour or texture?

  3. Abnormal. Does it look or feel different, or stand out from your other spots and moles?

  4. New. Has it appeared on your skin recently?

This self-check is not a diagnosis and cannot rule out skin cancer. The questions are based on the SCAN guide (Sore, Changing, Abnormal, New) from Skin Cancer College Australasia, which is not affiliated with Scanoma.

How the dermatologist review works

  1. Take a photo of your mole in the Scanoma app and answer a few questions.
  2. One of our doctors reviews it. A real doctor looks at your photo and answers.
  3. You get a written tentative diagnosis and clear next steps, usually within hours.

Who reviews your mole

Scanoma is an iPhone and Android app where registered dermatologists and skin cancer doctors review a photo of your mole. A real doctor reads every case, and you usually hear back within hours, for one fee of US$35.

Free in the app

Not ready for a review? Mole Mapper in the Scanoma app lets you photograph a mole and compare it over time, so a change is easy to spot. The UV index and high-UV alerts tell you when the sun is strong where you are.

When to see someone in person

See a doctor in person, without waiting, if a spot is bleeding, changing quickly, will not heal, or worries you. An online review does not replace an examination.
